Work Summary
A web-based live auction platform where many bidders compete on the same auction at the same time, with real-time updates over WebSockets.
The Challenge
Live auctions must stay correct when many people bid at the same moment. The backend is the single authority on bid validity, and every bid is processed under a database row lock.
- Proxy (automatic) bidding and dynamic bid increments.
- Anti-sniping extensions and private reserve prices.
- Real-time bid updates over WebSockets with Laravel Reverb.
- Redis for queues, caching and rate limiting, with the whole stack running in Docker.
The Solution
Row-level locking and a server-authoritative bidding flow keep every auction consistent, while WebSockets give bidders an instant, live experience.
